Dalsin’s new 42,000 sq. ft facility is a shining example of how automation and innovation can produce high quality, custom parts, with staggering efficiency. Many are talking about industry 4.0 and interconnected technologies, but Dalsin is strategically deploying it to increase capacity, serve customers better and address labor challenges.
The facility features two fully automated and integrated Salvagnini S4+P4 sheet metal processing systems connected to a central MV material warehouse with approximately 350 pallet locations. A robotic picker crane inside the oversized material warehouse intelligently transports raw material to one of two active material columns. Each column feeds one Salvagnini S4+P4 line. A single employee, located at the bending station, operates the entire system by making a request to the software indicating the part number and quantity to fabricate. The interconnected FMS handles the rest.
In addition, the S4 punching head design is philosophically different from typical turret punching designs. All punch tools are continually active with its own dedicated ram versus typical designs which have one central ram and one active punch. The S4 also incorporates a right-angle shear. This combination minimizes sheet movement and increases punching speed. Once a part is punched, the software automatically directs the part to the P4 bending unit. When the final bend is made on the P4, the part can be directed to one of two points where it is retrieved. This is the first time a human operator is required to handle the part.
